Free Seattle Museum Visits: How to Use Library Museum Passes
Use Seattle Public Library’s Museum Pass reservation tool to plan a free museum outing, with a practical checklist for availability and entry.

A museum outing can get expensive before you have bought lunch. If you have a Seattle Public Library card, start with the library’s Museum Pass reservation tool before paying for admission. It is a useful place to check for a free visit—not a promise that every museum will have a pass for your preferred date.
Start with the live calendar
The Seattle Public Library Museum Pass page currently allows one pass per calendar month, counted by the visit date. New passes become available after noon each day. Availability is limited, so check the calendar before making a firm plan.
Search by museum or date, then sign in with your library card number and PIN to request an available pass. A flexible afternoon is easier to plan than a birthday outing that must happen on one particular day.
Check who your pass actually admits
Participating destinations include Seattle Art Museum, MoPOP, MOHAI and the Seattle Aquarium. Group sizes and children’s age rules vary by venue. Read the individual listing rather than assuming one pass covers everyone in your party. The official participating-museum list explains those differences.
Before you book, write down the number of adults and children coming along. Compare that with the selected pass, then ask the venue about anything that is unclear. A free ticket is less useful if someone in the group still needs an unexpected paid admission.
Keep your entry documents together
Bring the printed or electronic pass and photo ID on the reserved date. SPL sends the pass as a PDF with the confirmation email; the library’s entry instructions also explain how to retrieve or print it. If plans change, use the cancellation link in the confirmation.
Save the PDF somewhere you can find quickly, and share the meeting time with your group. Check the museum’s own hours before leaving. Booking a pass and planning a workable visit are two separate jobs.
Keep the rest of the outing affordable
Choose one museum and leave some room around it. Pack a snack if the venue’s rules allow it, compare your transport options, and decide on a lunch budget in advance. You do not need to add another paid attraction to make a free visit feel worthwhile.
If you do not have a card, check SPL’s library-card eligibility guidance before assuming you can use the program. For another way to compare admission costs, read our Seattle attraction-pass value guide.
